Gridless Multidimensional Angle-of-Arrival Estimation for Arbitrary 3D Antenna Arrays

A full multi-dimensional characterization of the angle arrival (AoA) has immediate applications to efficient operation modern wireless communication systems. In this work, we develop a compressed sensing based method extract AoA information exploiting sparse nature signal received by sensor array. The proposed solution, on atomic l 0 norm, enables accurate gridless resolution in systems with arbitrary 3D antenna arrays. Our approach allows characterizing maximum number distinct sources (or scatters) that can be identified for given antennas and array geometry. Both noiseless noisy measurement scenarios are addressed, deriving evaluating resolvability propagation parameters through multi-level Toeplitz matrix rank\nolimits-minimization problem. To facilitate implementation also present least squares regularized convex relaxation problem characterize its conditions resolvability.
